Hidden Heartlands

Undiscovered in the centre of Ireland, lies some of it’s most beautiful and untouched treasures.

This rural heart reaches from the Shannon’s estuary, just above Carrick-on-Shannan, down towards Athlone and all the way past Shannon Town. Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands intertwines with the length of the Shannon River and the popular Beara Breifine Way. The area is primarily made up of the counties Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford but also includes some of Galway, Westmeath and Cavan.

At the focus of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands is the vast natural and majestic landscape on offer here.

Whether you are after activity or relaxation, there are options either to immerse yourself in the peacefulness of the place, or for adventure (or both!).

In the Heartlands, you can uncover hidden gems on the Blueway’s Cycling lanes, walking trails or stand up paddling through the uncharted canals.

You can cruise the Shannon, try your hand at angling or visit the spectacular castles and stately homes. There are opportunities to go pony trekking, stroll through forests or visit a local mine. Of course, there is also an infinite number of renowned restaurants, cafes and pubs to keep you well-fed and watered along the way.

The Hidden Heartlands has something for everyone – families with children (young to old), groups of friends or a great option for a peaceful solo stay.

This area makes for the perfect day trip from Leitrim or from your accommodation at The Courtyard Apartments.

So, leave the phone at home and live in the wonderful moments captured at Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands!
